The Diccionari de criteris terminològics (‘Dictionary of Terminological Criteria’) is an open dictionary that gathers several criteria published by TERMCAT. These criteria are abridged and published according to a regular format. This dictionary aims at grouping all criteria together in one tool, classified and structured to facilitate consultation.
What can you find in the dictionary? Essentially, the following types of criteria:
(1) Recommendations on the preferred Catalan term in a specific field when various terms coexist (for example, APODERAMENT O EMPODERAMENT?); distinction between closely related terms (for example, CITRONEL·LA, CITRONELLA O HERBA LLIMONA?)
(2) Linguistic issues related to terminology, specific for the Catalan language, such as loanwords, calques, use of hyphens, numerals, prefixes and suffixes (either of Greek or Latin origin, or taken from other languages), and so on. For example, PREFIX ANGLÈS M-: TRADUCCIÓ.
(3) Recommendations on methodological questions related to the elaboration of terminological dictionaries. For example, DENOMINACIONS PROCEDENTS DE MARQUES COMERCIALS.
Where do these criteria come from? This dictionary adapts criteria published by TERMCAT in various formats. Some of them are decisions taken by Consell Supervisor, the corporate body in charge of terminological standardisation in Catalan.
How should you use the dictionary? Clicking on Consulta de termes (‘Search terms’), terms can be looked up either using the alphabetical index (there is an index for each language) or the thematic index (all criteria are grouped according to their typology); also, simple and advanced searches can be made in the upper space Text de la consulta (‘Text search’).
All these criteria are also in Cercaterm.
