The Diccionari de fisioteràpia (‘Dictionary of Physiotherapy’) gathers about 1.800 terms related to physiotherapy. These terms are classified according to ten thematic areas: general concepts; anatomy; physiology; semiology; pathology; exploration and diagnosis; therapeutics and prevention; conceptual and methodological approaches; body positions, and measurement units.

This dictionary expands and updates the content of the Glossari de fisioteràpia (‘Glossary of Physiotherapy’), elaborated by Eva de Cardona and Jordi Esquirol and published in 2009 by the Autonomous University of Barcelona Publishing Services. The current edition has counted on the terminological advice offered by TERMCAT and the main difference regarding the first edition is that it includes equivalents in English, in addition to new entries. It also incorporates equivalents in Spanish for those terms appearing only in Catalan in the printed edition. Another remarkable difference with respect to the glossary is the thematic classification of terms.

Each terminological entry contains the preferred denomination in Catalan and the corresponding synonyms, if any; equivalents in Spanish and English; Latinisms, in some cases; symbols referring to measurement units; a definition in Catalan, and explanatory notes when necessary. It also includes the thematic area or areas each term belongs to.

Clicking on "Consulta de termes" (‘Term search’), terms can be looked up in three ways: using the alphabetical indexes (there is a different index for each language), using the thematic access or making simple or advanced searches in the upper space "Text de la consulta" (‘Text search’) in any of the dictionary languages.

This dictionary is targeted to physiotherapy students, with the aim of facilitating the study of this discipline in Catalan. It is expected, as well, to be a practical and useful tool for teachers, professors and professional physiotherapists.
