The online dictionary Diccionari de seguretat alimentària (‘Dictionary of Food Safety’) gathers more than 700 terms about food safety, food quality and risk analysis, control systems and foodborne hazards. It includes terms related to food, food chain, food safety control systems, food additives and functional classes, planning and auditing, laboratory and analytical techniques, diet studies, biological hazards, chemical hazards and physical hazards.

Each terminological entry contains its designations in Catalan and equivalents in Spanish, French and English. In addition entries of biological hazards include the scientific name of bacteria, viruses, Protozoa, Nematoda and Platyhelminthes, while entries of chemical hazards provide the chemical formula or the corresponding symbol. Each record is completed with a definition in Catalan and, in most cases, additional notes to expand the information of the definition.

This dictionary has been carried out by TERMCAT in co-authorship with the Catalan Ministry of Health. Conceptual advice from the Catalan Food Safety Agency has been essential throughout the entire process.

Clicking on “Consulta de termes” (‘Term search’), terms can be looked up in three ways: using the alphabetical indexes (there is a different index for each language), using the thematic index, or making simple or advanced searches in the upper space “Text de la consulta” (‘Text search’) in any of the dictionary languages.
