Nota

  • La denominació zifi correspon a l'adaptació al català del nom de gènere Ziphius, pertanyent a la família dels zífids (com es fa anàlogament en altres noms populars derivats de noms de gènere: per exemple, gerani de Geranium). Cal tenir en compte, però, que no totes les espècies de la família dels zífids pertanyen al gènere Ziphius.
    Per tant, en rigor, per a les espècies dels gèneres Berardius, Hyperoodon, Indopacetus, Mesoplodon iTasmacetus la denominació més adequada és zífid (relacionada amb el nom de família), més que no pas zifi (relacionada amb el nom del gènere Ziphius), per bé que els noms que contenen qualsevol de les dues formes es documenten indistintament.
