Terminologia de salut bàsica

This dictionary compiles about ninety basic terms from the field of health, organized into three main blocks: parts of the human body, common medical devices and materials used in a medical office, and healthcare equipment that can also be found in this environment. Its purpose is to spread the knowledge and use of Catalan at a communication level between professionals and patients in healthcare centers.

The terminology contained in this dictionary is extracted from a series of visual posters, available in print format to be displayed in healthcare centers and in digital format as interactive infographics, intended for users’ independent consultation.

Each entry in this dictionary includes one or more Catalan designations, equivalents in Spanish, French, and English, a definition, and, where applicable, explanatory notes that provide additional information about the term.

This dictionary is the result of the collaboration between the Catalan Government Ministry of Health and TERMCAT, for the creation of materials which increase language awareness, and is aimed both at new professionals joining the Catalan healthcare system and at users of healthcare services who wish to improve their understanding and communication skills in Catalan within this field.

Clicking on "Consulta de termes" (‘Term search’), terms can be looked up in three ways: using the alphabetical indexes (there is a different index for each language), using the thematic access or making simple or advanced searches in the upper space "Text de la consulta" (‘Text search’) in any of the dictionary languages.
