Diccionari de turisme

Twenty years have passed, and the world has changed a lot, as well as the ways of organizing time, the value given to leisure time, the reasons for travelling, the ways of travelling, the awareness of the footprint that our activities and our journeys leave on the planet and the desire to experience real and personalized things.

Twenty years have gone by since the publication of the Diccionari d'hoteleria i turisme ('Dictionary of Hotel Management and Tourism'), a dictionary with 992 terms that was published in print in 2001 and integrated into the Cercaterm but has never been available as an online dictionary. Since then, the importance and weight of the tourism sector in the Catalan economy has been growing. And it has been changing as well. To respond to all this, we now publish the Diccionari de turisme (‘Dictionary of Tourism’), carried out by the Catalan Tourist Board and TERMCAT, with the involvement of the Catalan Ministry of Business and Work.

This dictionary that we now present updates and expands the terminology of this sector: 1,205 terms with definitions, equivalents in Spanish, French, English and German, and many additional notes. It is based on the 2001 dictionary and has incorporated, on the one hand, the terminology of the field worked on in the TERMCAT from time to time over these years, especially to respond to the needs of users, and, on the other hand, the proposals provided by a team of specialists.

The dictionary that we make available to users today is an open project, since we foresee an annual update to incorporate the neologisms that appear in this field or to improve the quality of the information in the records, with the aim of contributing to promoting the presence of Catalan in the tourism sector.

Clicking on "Consulta de termes" (‘Term search’), terms can be looked up in three ways: using the alphabetical indexes (there is a different index for each language), using the thematic access or making simple or advanced searches in the upper space "Text de la consulta" (‘Text search’) in any of the dictionary languages.
